From Sindhudurg Fort to Tarkarli Beach: Exploring the Coast Near Your Farmland

Owning land near Kankavali isn't just about the plantation — it puts you within easy reach of one of Maharashtra's most underrated coastlines. If you're planning a site visit, it's worth building in time to see the coast too.

Tarkarli Beach. About an hour from Kankavali, Tarkarli is known for calm, clear waters at the confluence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea — good enough for scuba diving, snorkelling and parasailing, which have made it one of the Konkan's more active water-sports destinations in recent years.

Sindhudurg Fort. A short boat ride from Malvan sits Sindhudurg Fort, built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century and still standing on its own island in the Arabian Sea. It's one of the better-preserved sea forts on this coast and a genuinely worthwhile detour for anyone interested in Maratha history.

Malvan. The town that gives Malvani cuisine its name — expect coastal Konkani thalis, fresh seafood and a slower pace than Goa's more touristed beaches, just a couple of hours south.

Getting there. Chipi (Sindhudurg) Airport is the closest air link, with Goa's Dabolim/Manohar International Airport a further option about 100 km away. The Konkan Railway and NH66 both run through the region, making it practical to combine a farm visit with a coastal weekend rather than treating them as separate trips.

For landowners, this is part of the appeal — a plantation that generates income, and a coastline worth visiting on the same trip, without the crowds or prices of Goa itself.
